Toxic shock syndrome is exceptional but serious medical condition caused by a bacterial infection. This condition is the result of toxins produced by the Staphylococcus aureus bacterium.
However, toxic shock syndrome has been linked to tampons use in menstruating women. This condition can affect men, children, and people of all ages. According to the National Institutes of Health, tampon use is a factor in less than half of toxic shock cases.
This infection normally takes place when bacteria enters your body through an opening in your skin. This bacteria can enter through a cut, sore, or another wound. According to the Mayo Clinic, Experts are not sure why tampon use sometimes leads to the condition. Some believe that a tampon left in place for a long period of time attracts bacteria.
Another possibility is that seal fibers scratch the vagina, creating an opening for bacteria to enter your bloodstream. Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a potentially fatal illness caused by a bacterial toxin. Different bacterial toxins may cause toxic shock syndrome, depending on the situation.
Physicians from the MedUni Vienna’s Department of Clinical Pharmacology, in cooperation with the company Biomedizinische Forschungsgesellschaft mbH in Vienna, have developed world’s first, vaccine to treat Toxic Shock Syndrome. In its first trial, it becomes a safe and effective vaccine against this disease.
General symptoms of sepsis or blood poisoning normally can be seen in young women who uses super tampons while their periods are going on. Therefore, it is known as tampon disease. Thus, this may affect the absorbing capacity of managing tampons.
Staphylococci colonize is usually around all of us seems especially on the skin and mucous membranes. (Staphylococci are the heaviest skin-colonizing bacteria and the most important causes of nosocomial infections and community-associated skin infections). This is more hazardous to health.
Martha Eibl, director of Biomedizinische Forschungsgesellscaft mbH and former university professor at the Institute for Immunology of the medical faculty of the University of Vienna, “However, for people with weakened immune systems, they can cause serious diseases such as Toxic Shocks Syndrome.”
This affects those patients who are continuously sick, people who grasp with liver diseases and people who recovering after heart operations.
Bernd Jilma from MedUni Vienna’s Department of Clinical Pharmacology said, “Nevertheless, in 50% of cases, the disease is associated with menstruation in young women.”
This vaccine which has been found more safe and effective don’t have any side effects. It was actually made up from a detoxified Staphylococcus toxin. It has been tested more than 45 men and women. It was found that its effect is similar to tetanus immunization.
The vaccine is first inserted into the skin. After it has been inserted into the skin, a person develops antibodies. It becomes active if the germs start to spread infection. A blood test can show whether someone has a shortage of antibodies. Risk groups could then be protectively immunized
Eibl said, “We are well on the way to having a vaccine that prevents this series disease. However, it will still take some years before it is in clinical use.”
“A Phase II trial with a larger test population has now started, in order to check the initial, promising results. We are still looking for more volunteers,” says Jilma.
