We usually are more conscious about our personal hygiene. Deodorant is one of the things most of us use every day. We everyone knows that deodorant keeps us smelly. The main purpose of deodorant is to prevent from body’s sweat smell. Although, it kills odor-causing bacteria. It’s being said, women go crazy for the smell of a man.
Moreover, the new study suggests that stereotypically un-masculine men can significantly boost their manliness in the eyes of women by using deodorant. The men that have highly masculine traits do not experience similar pierce. Fragrance modulates our body odour but the psychology of fragrance choice has been largely overlooked. According to the new study from the University of Sterling, perfume can change perceptions of others.
Scientists involved 130 male and female participants in the study. They asked them to consider opposite sex photographs. Then they asked participants to rate their masculinity and femininity. Almost 239 men and women participants rated odor samples of 40 members of the opposite sex. The women who apply deodorant were rated as more feminine-smelling by men.
By obtaining the data, scientists have concluded that females are more sensitive and attentive to odors as compared to males. Whereas, men who were rated as low and high in masculinity, respectively, became indistinguishable when they apply deodorant. It means unmanly men saw a spike in their perceived masculinity. They even observed little change in them.
Research led Dr. Caroline Allen said, “Perfume and body spray adverts – including Lynx and Old spice – often play with themes of masculinity. Both products allow you to smell like a super masculine guy.”
“Men are able to use deodorant to artificially raise their game so to speak, levelling the playing field by making themselves comparable, at least as far as odour is concerned, to more masculine men.”
“Our evolutionary preferences have likely shaped this difference in fragrance design: research findings show that we actually don’t like high levels of masculinity which are often associated with aggressiveness and hostility, but we show no upper limit on our femininity preferences,” he added.
When it comes to the types of smells women find attractive in men, women get attracted to men whose smell is right and merges with their sense of style.
