There are some incidents that prove laser device causes accidents in aircraft field. Its sudden flash can blind pilot. If it gets both eyes, which is possible, the pilot’s going to be fairly well out of the loop. So, it is considered as dangerous for pilots in aircraft. Laser light or some other bright light at aircraft can cause the hazard.
But a scientists team from the Tomsk State University have developed a new a multi-wavelength laser. This new multi-wavelength laser is also called as MLM-01. Scientists develop this new laser device with the aim of helping pilots to land planes in bad weather. According to scientists, this provides reliable navigation of planes and ships in low visibility conditions. This novel innovation is done by using a metal vapour of copper, strontium, calcium and barium.
The active medium of MLM-01 is the key to its functional characteristics. It affects the range of wavelengths at which the installation can work. Although, Copper bromide provides radiation in the yellow-green region of the spectrum. Thus, it will be used in various sectors. For example, in laser microscope, the luminance amplifier, and also for the treatment of skin disorders in dermatology.
The installation operates at a frequency of 5 microns while using calcium as the active medium. It is the average area of the IR spectrum of the radiation. So, it might break the bonds of complex organic molecules and to create genetic modifications in biology and medicine.
Additionally, this new laser device has other potential applications. For example, particularly in for navigating aeroplanes and ships in low visibility conditions.
Aleksey Shumeyko, one of the main developers said, “The laser device, which uses a barium as the working medium, radiate 1.5-3 microns in the invisible range. Such radiation is easily visible recording systems, but the beam does not blind pilots.”
