Mobile CityTree Installations Use Moss to Clean Air in Urban Areas

The perfect combination of plants and IoT.

Scientists have various plans for future cities. Some of them fascinating ideas involve architecture, city planning, or materials engineering. Even, many of the concepts are strange and already in use.

Berlin-based tech startup IoT.

In cities, where mosses barely able to survive due to their need for water and shade. The combination of shade-giving plants, a fully automated supply of water and nutrients and cutting-edge Internet of Things technology (IoT) can solve this problem.

In real, it is a moss cum tree. It improves the air measurably, cools it and protects the environment from noise.

The company’s website noted, “Moss protected by plant coverage binds particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and CO2 and produces valuable oxygen. At the same time, it cools the surrounding air. Each installation is about 3 meters (9.84 ft) wide, stands at almost 4 meters (13.12 ft) tall and planted 2.19 meters (7.19 ft) deep.”

The air pollution in cities rising day by day. According to scientists, it will affect  80% of the world’s population. Having a concern about this issue, scientists developed this intelligent air filter which can bind particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and CO2 and produces valuable oxygen.

The company claimed, “It’s capable of providing the same environmental benefit 275 actual trees would. It’s able to absorb some 250 grams of particles per day, removing 240 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year.”

Zhengliang Wu, co-founder of Green City Solutions, said, “Moss cultures have a much larger leaf surface area than any other plant. That means we can capture more pollutants.”

It consists of a Wi-Fi enabled sensor that is capable of measuring the quality of air around it. It takes up a relatively small space and installed fairly seamlessly in parks and proven to be an efficient and fairly cost-effective strategy for cleaning the air.

Wu said, “Our ultimate goal is to incorporate technology from the CityTree into existing buildings. We dream of creating a climate infrastructure so we can regulate what kind of air and also what kind of temperature we have in a city.”
