Innovative technology: Sharing Data Via Sound

Chirp’s platform is designed to exist inside our customers’ technology and products. It bridges the gaps between the many incompatible technologies available today and the incompatibilities that occur between older and newer systems. This disconnect holds back many industries. With low set-up costs and minimal hardware infrastructure, sound-based networking provides a bridge that can interconnect vastly different generations of technology.

People generally rely on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and optical fibers data transmission methods. Although, all become important suspects. So, developers have begun to explore innovative new solutions for sending and receiving information. Chirp, The London-based startup doing the same. They are using multi-platform, ‘sonic barcodes’ to encode data into unique audio streams. This can be a small file or command, or a link which gives access to a certain file or website.

Any device with a speaker can send a ‘chirp’, and most devices with a microphone can decode them. By transforming digital information into sound, the company has found an accessible, open solution to data sharing. They are using audio transmission for sharing data via sound.

Sharing data via sound allows the user to know when the transmission is happening. This makes the technology trustworthy than invisible digital alternatives.

Chief Technology Officer James Nesfield said, Sound is pretty much everywhere. There are billions of devices which already consists of hardware to send audio. Pretty much anything with audio capabilities, even without additional technology, can now send and broadcast data.”

“It’s all about finding a simple, seamless solution that includes a wide range of devices – not just the latest technology. Enabling compatibility with legacy systems and established audio technology makes it even easier to send and receive more data.”

Sharing data via sound i.e., audio transmission technology has some clear advantages in certain situations. Both the sender and recipient can be certain that the information has been transferred successfully.

Ad campaigns have a very good benefit of this innovative technology. They could share data through sound to masses of people as part of their customer experience. Chirp originally focused on mobile-to-mobile applications.

As developers noted, the most exciting thing about the technology, that it is use-case agnostic.

James said, “The team at Chirp constantly look to increase their data rates and improve the reach of their product. We’ll never be satisfied. We’re always investing in our core research and engineering to increase data rates and reliability.”

It’s also a massive enabler for the Internet of Things, in essentially any given environment.

James said, “Audio transmission clearly provides a data sharing medium that is inclusive, scalable and widely applicable. However, companies should be aware of some important issues in order to take advantage of the market.”

“Our technology is intrinsically simple. It has the growing importance in an increasingly complicated networking environment.”
