Idle Hands: New and Improved Idlebox Tool to Aid in Reduction of Idling

Scientists from U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory in collaboration have relaunched a new idlebox tool. The idlebox is an electronic education and superior toolkit designed for promoting idling reduction over the country.

This new idlebox tool authorizes users to learn more about advantages and alternatives of idling reduction. It also tells users how to apply an idling reduction initiative or campaign and engage and educate drivers. Although the idle box is a great resource for fleets, organizations help to save money and minimize emissions by achieving their goals. It helps drivers to use less fuel and minimizes pollution and greenhouse gases.

Working of idlebox tool

This new idlebox tool is extensible and easy to use. Furthermore, there are many ways to use it including finding idling reduction options to calculate returns on investment for idling reduction solutions. It holds complete information on developing a full-fledged campaign for a business, organization or community. These tools come in various forms so that user can choose according to their need. It comes in a range of fact sheets, technical papers, and presentations.

Although, it depends on solid data from severe testing. IdleBox has a proven track record by users.

Argonne Transportation System Analyst Linda Gaines, said, “It is important that petroleum-reduction initiatives be rooted in sound science. Basing recommendations on scientific fact, as IdleBox does. It enables consistency among fuel conservation programs, fostering public confidence and avoiding confusion.”

Marla Westerhold of the Environmental Department at ComEd, Illinois’ largest electric utility, said, “At ComEd, we used the IdleBox toolkit to create posters and information cards that were used for an internal education program. Employees provided feedback that the anti-idling booth was their favourite of the day, and many said that they were going to change their behaviour to limit or reduce idling of their personal vehicles after hearing about the impacts.”
