Facebook already has your username friends. This time, Facebook came up with a new idea. They now want to read your thoughts. The social network is planning telepathic technology that can read brain waves and send them to people. According to them, this telepathic technology could go far beyond liking status updates or sharing holiday photos.
To do so, Facebook’s California-based hardware division, Building 8, is hiring neuroscientists. They will help build brain-computer interfaces, neural imaging, signal processing, and haptics.
It seems interesting news that Zuckerberg is thinking about brain-computer interfaces. Through this telepathic technology, we will soon be able to send full, rich thoughts to each other directly using technology. You just need to think of something, and your friends will immediately experience it.
According to the team, “This could help individuals to immediately share their thoughts in posts or by Messenger without needing to type on a computer or mobile device. This would be a revolutionary project.“
The B8 team will apply Darpa-style breakthrough development at the intersection of ambitious science and product development. Darpa is very enthusiastic about making brain-machine interfaces.
Last year, Zuckerberg said, “Most of our AI research is focused on understanding the meaning of what people share. For example, detecting when a photo has a certain friend in it and making sure they see it.“
“In order to do this really well, our goal is to build AI systems that are better than humans at our primary senses: vision, listening, etc. Thus, we’re building systems that can recognize everything that’s in an image or a video. This includes people, objects, scenes, etc. These systems need to understand the context of the images and videos as well as whatever is in them.“
“For listening and language, we’re focusing on translating speech to text, text between any languages,” he added.
