At the Apple annual Developer’s Conference or WWDC on June 5, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook announced that they are now working on AI brains for autonomous systems in car push. He also announced the tech giant’s latest improvements in its MacOS and iOS systems. This is for the first time; he elaborated on the company’s plans in the automotive market.

In an Interview with AI projects to work on.”

Well, it’s not all about the future of autonomous cars. In reality, the company is working on its own autonomous driving software, i.e., AI brain. For that purpose, the company hired more than 1,000 engineers to work on its secret car project called ‘Project Titan‘.

In December 2016, Steve Kenner, Apple’s director of product integrity, wrote a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in which he wrote about the company’s interest in automation technology.

Cook said, “Whatever car Apple is working on right now, it would most probably be an electric one. There is a major disruption looming there. You’ve got kind of three vectors of change happening generally in the same time frame.”

According to documents of Apple’s self-driving car technology, the system is capable of sending electronic commands for steering, accelerating, and decelerating. They are even planning to put staffers through a training program to operate the vehicles ahead of testing on California roads.

Cook explained, “Autonomy is something that’s incredibly exciting for us; we’ll see where it takes us. We’re not really saying from a product point of view what we will do, but we are being straightforward that it’s a core technology that we view as very important.”
